We're kicking off the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL)'s Q3 update at Katong Park. The stacked side platform station will feature 2 exits with Exit 1 located within the park itself and Exit 2 located along Fort Road. Both exits are significantly complete with most of the observable architectural works ready. Exit 1 even has the station name sign up and in place.

Earlier in the quarter, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and then Minister S Iswaran unveiled some progress shots of the TEL4 stations as they got ready for their debut next year. Interior shots showed both platform levels of the station. Fare gates are also seen in one of the interior shots, as well as features such as the platform screen doors (PSDs) and lighting within the station. Signage had yet to be put up on the PSDs however.

entry points hoarded up.

Katong Park appears to be one of the TEL4 stations at the most advanced stage of completion, along with Bayshore station. Both stations happen to share the same contractor - Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (STEC), as either one of the main contractors or joint venture partners. With both exits at the station appearing well completed, works are ongoing for the commuter facilities infrastructure such as pick up-drop off shelters and covered linkways.

We look forward to the hoarding coming down around more parts of the station - just like they have at Exit 2 - and the landscaping works taking place to naturalise the station environment a little more. Perhaps it will be possible to peek into the station once the hoarding around the skylights is removed and the foot paths in the park re-established. With approximately half a year to go till the completion of works, there should not be too much work left to complete. We anticipate that test running of the systems and trains will begin in earnest to put the network through its paces before the section of line is finally opened. Do stay tuned as we bring you more updates as these take place.
