T312 - Sungei Bedok update Q1 2023

Sungei Bedok is the final station on this stretch of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), till works on the extension to Changi Airport begin. Thus it is fitting that we end our Q1 2023 update at this station, which will be a stacked interchange station also serving the Downtown Line (DTL). Yes, we will not be including progress at Bayshore station under TEL4 in this Q1 update - largely due to the fact that there is not much to update at that particular site. Nonetheless, let us dive into the Sungei Bedok update.

The western-most edge of the station is currently located at Bedok Corner, where the road makes a 90-degree turn. In the future, there will be a T-junction located above the station here. Backfilling is in progress to the east to cover back removed spoil (earth) over the station's roof slab. The works are largely complete, with only a few bits still exposed.

On the western edge, we understand that structures previously seen with a boxy design are actually the exits to the commercial subway being built atop the cut and cover box tunnels, similar to that at Marine Parade. These line the westbound Upper East Coast Road till the junction at the Upper East Coast bus terminal. As of now, we do not know when this commercial subway is expected to be opened to the public.

Meanwhile, closer to the Bedok Camp and just outside Bedok Corner food centre are the locations of 2 station exits. Rebar can be seen coming up to form the base of the lift shafts for the exits - this was not previously visible.

Further east, 2 other exits can be seen. One of these will facilitate the movement of commuters' bicycles into the underground bicycle park facility located at the station's concourse level. These exits seem to be at a slightly more advanced stage of construction than the western exits, with the lift shafts already cast. Nonetheless, structural works are ongoing for all 4 exits at the station.
