T303 - Tanjong Rhu update Q2 2023

28 May 2023 - A view of Exit 2 at night.

With the first section of the East Coast sector of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) consisting of 7 stations due to open next year, we did a few check ins to view the progress of the stations both during the day and evening. Starting off with the first new station on phase 4 of the TEL, Tanjong Rhu, we'll be working our way further east.

The final traffic scheme at Tanjong Rhu will see a slight adjustment from the original road network before the construction of TEL. The main difference being the opening of the road junction near Tanjong Ria & Camelot by the Water condominiums, offering a more direct route through Tanjong Rhu. Formerly, the road network took you through the square bounded by Tanjong Ria and Water Place condominiums instead. However, judging by the final traffic layout as listed above, buses will now run directly through via the new junction, calling at a pair of new bus stops directly outside the station's 2 exits. Exit 1 is located on the southern side while Exit 2 is located at the northern end and nearer to the sports hub.

10 May 2023 - The false ceiling in Exit 2 is being installed. Electrical wire loops and potential
ducting for potential signage or lighting can also be seen. The wall near the lift still appears bare.

10 May 2023 - Side view of Exit 2 where cladding can be seen on the external wall.

10 May 2023 - A side view of Exit 2 where works are ongoing.

10 May 2023 - Road reinstatement works in progress.

28 May 2023 - Side view of Exit 2 where glass panels are now being installed.

28 May 2023 - A pick-up/drop-off (PUDO) stand south of Exit 2.

28 May 2023 - Another view of the commuter facilities at Exit 2, with the sports hub in the
background.

Exit 2
Work has progressed within the roughly 2-week period between our visits. Glass panels are being installed at the station where there were previously none. Going even further back, in quarter 1, the roadway for Tanjong Rhu Place which runs next to the exit had yet to be paved and was a stretch of crushed stone. Since then, the pedestrian walkway has also been moved further away from the under construction exit to allow for the installation of commuter infrastructure such as the covered linkway and PUDO point.

10 May 2023 - A view of Exit 1 with the road skirting around the work site.

28 May 2023 - Tanjong Rhu Road has since been diverted across the work site. The new bus
stops outside the station are visible but not in operation yet.

28 May 2023 - A view of Exit 1 in the evening.

28 May 2023 - A signage board in place at Exit 1. We are unsure if this is a static display or
the LED arrival indicator board.

28 May 2023 - The columns along the exit edge were reflecting light.

Exit 1
More features are now noticeable at Exit 1, such as the interior signage. Other finishings such as the handrails for staircases have also been installed. Some work remains to go yet, such as the installation of glass panels into the frames for weather protection and the installation of a covered linkway from the new bus stop to the station exit.

28 May 2023 - A view of the ventilation building on the eastern end
of the station.

28 May 2023 - Fire fighting lines at the ventilation building.

Some parts of the station are illuminated through the station's own lighting, instead of using the temporary construction lighting - such as at the ventilation shaft. Typically, interior work would be completed before the work at surface level to minimise the need for bringing construction materials through areas where work has been largely completed. With this, we can assume that interior works are largely completed, although works on the finer details such as signage and other electrical components may still be ongoing.

Do stay tuned as we provide continued updates when available.
