T308 - Marine Terrace update Q2 2023

2 June 2023 - A view of Exit 6, the cooling tower & reinstated open air car park in the evening.

Quite a lot has gone on in the past quarter at contract T308 for the construction of Marine Terrace station. The temporary car park has been closed, the former open air car park has been reinstated, the temporary pedestrian overhead bridge (POB) has been closed & decommissioned and station architectural works are progressing. All within the last quarter alone. Let's unpack how the work has gone & what has been done.

2 July 2023 - A similar view during the day.

9 August 2022 - Former exit lettering - now replaced by a new exit numbering scheme.

2 July 2023 - Notice on the relocation of temporary car park back to the reinstated permanent
open air car park. The new exit numbering can be seen here.

2 July 2023 - Notice to residents on upcoming work on weekends &
public holidays.

Updated exit numbers & upcoming work
Firstly, with the move of station exits from lettering to numbering, let us re-orientate ourselves to the terminology to be used with reference to the station exits. Starting from the large main station exit at the centre, formerly known as Exit A and now Exit 1, the numbering moves in a clockwise direction. The last exit outside CHIJ Katong Convent, formerly known as Exit C is now numbered Exit 6. We've also done up a table below for easier reference.

Exit Location

Notices to residents detailing the upcoming works over the weekend & public holidays mostly revolves around architectural finishing works. These tend to be less noisy in nature and thus are carried out on weekends. Such activities may include the installation of ceiling panels, cladding or railings and balustrades around staircases or elevated structures where commuters may walk.

being used yet.

2 June 2023 - Another view of Exit 1, including some rain screens being installed near the roof
overhang.

Exit 1
Formerly known as Exit A, this forms the main station exit which is larger and wider than the rest of the station exits. It is located right in the heart of Marine Terrace and opens to the neighbourhood plaza. The exit also features an integrated pick-up/drop-off (PUDO) shelter. Over the last quarter, works have progressed with more cladding work completed. Additionally, quite a fair bit of the roofing works have been completed as well. An initial layer is installed before the final grey layer is added on top.

The bus stop along Marine Parade Road that used to be located in front of block 51 has also been shifted to near the neighbourhood police centre (NPC). This is currently right in front of Exit 1. A visit during the evening, however, shows that the station's permanent lighting is not yet being used for illumination for night works - unlike at Katong Park and Tanjong Katong stations.

10 May 2023 - Lots of scaffolding around Exit 2 (formerly Exit E).

Exit 2
Formerly known as Exit E and since renumbered to Exit 2, much progress can be seen at this exit over the last quarter. Most of the cladding work appears to be completed with small pockets left to be completed. Scaffolding that was previously extensively used on the western length of the exit is now gone, showing a rather clean wall with cladding work completed.

Exit 3
Progress at Exit 3, formerly Exit F, may not be very apparent on a first glance. However the exit has largely completed cladding works and the once extensive scaffolding used on the side facing Marine Parade Road has since been removed. Some construction netting remains and the exit has yet to use its permanent station lighting for illumination when night works are carried out within.

Exit 4
Formerly known as Exit B, since renumbered to Exit 4, this station exit is located directly opposite the main station exit. Occupying a narrow strip of land, the exit is rather elongated to allow for escalators, elevators and staircase access to the station. Over the past quarter, cladding work and roofing works have been ongoing. Some of the scaffolding has since been removed. Like the rest of the station exits, no permanent lighting has been noted to be used for night works yet.

decommissioned and removed.

2 July 2023 - A fair amount of scaffolding has since been removed from Exit 5.

Exit 5
For the exit formerly known as Exit D, work has progressed steadily over the past quarter. Cladding and roofing works have been ongoing and a fair amount of scaffolding has been removed from the exit exterior, unveiling a clean wall along Marine Parade Road.

2 June 2023 - A close up view of Exit 6 from the temporary POB.

2 July 2023 - A view of Exit 6 behind the cooling tower.

Exit 6
Formerly known as Exit C, since renumbered to Exit 6, this exit is likely to be the slowest progressing exit out of the 6 at Marine Terrace station. That is not to say that works have been slow over the last quarter, with cladding and roofing works ongoing - it is merely that the works appear to be the furthest from completion out of all the 6 exits. A fair amount of scaffolding and construction netting surrounds the exit as opposed to observed at the other station exits.

10 May 2023 - The area next to the cooling tower still under construction.

2 June 2023 - The reinstated open air car park next to the cooling tower in the evening.

2 June 2023 - Parking lots in front of the cooling tower.

2 July 2023 - Car park and the cooling tower during the day.

Reinstated open air car park
When Marine Terrace station was being constructed, the previous open air car park at the foot of block 51 had to make way for the construction site to allow sufficient room for machinery to maneuver. In view of this, a temporary replacement car park was built underneath the project site office in front of block 59 which was located nearby. Now that works are sufficiently completed and the site occupied for construction is no longer required by the contractor, the car park has been reinstated to its former location and opened for use with effect from May 2023. The reinstatement of the car park signals the return of some form of normalcy for residents - the beginning of the end of construction.

open on the day of visit.

2 July 2023 - The temporary POB has since been removed.

Removal of temporary pedestrian overhead bridge
Prior to the construction of the MRT line along Marine Parade Road, several pedestrian overhead bridges (POBs) were located in the vicinity of Marine Terrace precinct. To facilitate construction of the station, the POB located outside St Patrick's School & CHIJ Katong Convent was replaced with a temporary POB to allow commuters to cross Marine Parade Road. With the impending completion of the MRT station, connections will be made through the underground subway instead thus negating the need for an overhead crossing for pedestrians. The temporary POB was since closed and removed within the last quarter.
