T309 - Siglap update Q2 2023

8 June 2023 - Exit B of Siglap station, illuminated for night works.

As we press on further east, our updates bring us to contract T309 for the construction of Siglap station. Brought to you by a joint venture between John Holland & Zhen Hua (Singapore) Engineering Pte Ltd. Previously, John Holland had completed Springleaf station and the Tagore box under contract T208 for the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phase 2. Work at Siglap station is progressing well, with some illumination from the station permanent lighting noted. Covered linkways are beginning to go up as well and the road infrastructure & pedestrian paths are slowly being reinstated. We'll delve into these a bit more in our post.

These images were contributed by @suchda, showing the development of Siglap station at various points during its construction over time. Thank you for sending these over and allowing us to use them.

completed.

8 June 2023 - Cladding works ongoing.

8 June 2023 - The underside of the pick-up/drop-off (PUDO) canopy still requires more work.

Exit A
This exit is the least complete amongst the 4 exits at Siglap station. Illuminated with temporary construction lighting, netting still obscures the station exit openings to Marine Parade Road. Cladding works have commenced and a large amount of the aluminium panels have been installed, though there are patches here and there. The PUDO canopy also remains incomplete, with the underside still showing the exposed steel beams. The work should be completed in short order though, and would not likely be a show-stopper, preventing the station from opening.

8 June 2023 - Some cladding has been removed temporarily.

8 June 2023 - The lower level of granite cladding panels has not yet been installed, to allow
access to electrical cables.

8 June 2023 - Architectural design finishes & glass panels still wrapped in protective films.

8 June 2023 - Entryways to the station Exit are blocked off with hoarding, but the rest of the exit
can be seen from the road with no hoardings blocking.

Exit D
Exit D was one of the first to have substantial cladding works completed, but during an evening visit, the exit was not lighted up. As such, we are unable to tell if this exit uses its own permanent lighting for illuminating night works or if it is still using temporary construction lighting.

Exit B
This exit is one of the fastest in terms of completion work, having cladding applied since Q1 of the year and now being illuminated using the permanent station lighting. The fittings within the station appear to be complete, with remaining works focused on the steel canopies at the entry ways to the exit. We believe that the western end of the exit will feature the barrier-free ramps to the lift while the eastern end of the exit will feature stairs that allow passengers access to the escalators.

8 June 2023 - More shelter canopies under construction at the western end of the exit.

8 June 2023 - Glass panels still protected with film.

8 June 2023 - The station exit illuminated in the evening - it is difficult to tell if this is
the temporary or permanent lighting.

Exit C
As the largest of the 4 station exits, this exit has a fair amount of work left to go before it can be declared complete. Nonetheless, the exit was illuminated with what appears to be temporary construction lighting.

8 June 2023 - Station cooling tower. External lighting is the station's permanent lighting.

8 June 2023 - Some construction netting on the station cooling tower structure.

8 June 2023 - Installation of covered linkway.

8 June 2023 - Covered linkway works in progress.

Other ongoing works
Other works that are ongoing at the site are the installation of covered linkways along Marine Parade Road & works to the cooling tower building. The cooling tower has had its cladding works completed and the permanent station lighting on the exterior has been switched on as well. This bodes well as an indicator of the advanced stage of construction for the station.
