T302 - Founders' Memorial update Q1 2024

 

9 March 2024 - Founders' Memorial station buildings seen in the evening. About 95% of the
Gardens by the Bay - Bay East has since been hoarded up for the development of the
Founders' Memorial.

Contract T302 for the construction of Founders' Memorial station has about wrapped up with the station buildings illuminated at night and very little work being carried out. The site has slowly seen machinery and other heavy equipment being vacated and the roadways and parking lots reinstated above the station. Unfortunately, the majority of the Gardens by the Bay - Bay East park has been hoarded off for the construction of the Founders' Memorial development, making it impossible to get close to the completed station buildings without trespassing.

We attempted to get some pictures from afar with our equipment to provide an update of the station's progress over the first quarter of the year. While the station works may be virtually complete, we have not seen news that the station buildings have been handed over to operator SMRT. It remains to be seen if the Land Transport Authority (LTA) or SMRT will be responsible for the upkeep of the facility till it becomes commissioned in the 2027 to 2028 timeframe, when the adjacent Founders' Memorial development is anticipated to be ready.

The ongoing works for the Founders' Memorial development make it difficult to observe the station buildings and their architectural features from within the gardens. Nonetheless, the team will be sure to keep you updated in the event that hoarding near the station site comes down and it becomes possible to get nearer to the station buildings at street level. Alternatively, we'll be able to catch glimpses of the station's interior as trains whizz past on opening day of Phase 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line come 23 June 2024. Stay tuned till then!
