East Coast Line Construction: TEL5 - A snapshot in August 2024

Contracts for Bedok South and Sungei Bedok stations on phase 5 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) may have had a one year extension to their deadlines, but work on the stations has not slowed down a bit. A recent visit in the middle of the month saw that works were still pushing ahead at both stations, with the exit structures and ancillary buildings really getting dressed up now. With structural completion now behind the project teams, work has shifted to focus on the finer architectural details of the stations' facilities.

TE30 - Bedok South (Contract T311)
In a nutshell: The station's 5 exits - Exit 1 (Green), Exit 2 (Purple), Exit 3 (Blue), Exit 4 (Red) & Exit 5 (Yellow/Orange) - were all having some metal framing added to the edge of the existing roof overhang. Upper East Coast Road was successfully realigned last month to allow for the conversion of the junction with Bedok South Road to be turned into a four-way junction from the current T-junction, allowing connection into Bayshore estate to the south. Other roadway works are in progress, such as the construction of pedestrian pathways around the station exits.

TE31 - Sungei Bedok (Contract T312)
In a nutshell: As works continue at Sungei Bedok station, Exits 3 and 4 seem to have been fully fitted out from an architectural perspective. Exits 1 and 2, near the Bedok Food Centre & Bedok Army Camp are a little further behind in terms of completion works. In addition, a recent development at the site is the removal of the noise barrier outside the Fairmount Condominium, which is located at the corner of Bedok and Upper East Coast Roads.
