TEL 4 & 5 - A snapshot in November 2023

An overview of TEL4 & 5 stations TE23 to TE31 in November 2023.
Top (L - R): TE23 - Tanjong Rhu, TE24 - Katong Park, TE25 - Tanjong Katong
Middle (L - R): TE26 - Marine Parade, TE27 - Marine Terrace, TE28 - Siglap
Bottom (L - R): TE29 - Bayshore, TE30 - Bedok South, TE31 - Sungei Bedok

We hope you've been enjoying our quarterly updates on the construction progress of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) east coast section stations. In order to be more current, this is the snapshot feature that provides you with a simpler update of the progress in the current month. As we look into 2024 coming around soon, everyone is anticipating the opening of 7 stations under phase 4. We'll eventually be winding down coverage of the progress of these stations seeing how works are somewhat ramping down and changes here will not be as drastic. Coverage of the phase 5 stations will continue and the freed up time will allow us to cover other rail projects in greater detail. Nonetheless, do enjoy the November snapshot for TEL!

Phase 4 stations
All 7 stations are ramping up for eventual handover to the client - the Land Transport Authority (LTA) - and subsequently the operator SMRT. Several stations have received the public transport logo, encapsulated in a caplet to indicate the presence of a station exit. We've done up a simple table for your quick reference.

TE23 - Tanjong Rhu (Contract T303)
In a nutshell: The station still has some elements to be installed such as the missing cladding at the corner of Exit 2. This may, however, be part of defect rectification. System testing was observed as the arrival board displayed information although it was unlikely that there would be actual train testing over the weekend.

TE24 - Katong Park (Contract T305)
In a nutshell: New signage has been installed at Exit 2. However it is not apparent at the main entrance of Exit 2 - we suspect this is to prevent confusion among public transport commuters as the current signage is not easily viewed, thereby leading to less potential confusion. The public transport logo caplets have also been installed at both exits. The train arrival LED board was displaying similar information as at Tanjong Rhu station.

TE25 - Tanjong Katong (Contract T306)
In a nutshell: Hoarding has been removed from around the station's exits. Some hoarding still exists near the cooling tower and supporting infrastructure, however reinstatement works are in full swing.

TE26 - Marine Parade (Contract T307)
In a nutshell: We now know the numbering sequence of the station's exits, with the Parkway Centre exit being number 1. The numbering makes a clock-wise rotation, with Exit 6 being next to block 74 along Marine Parade Road. Exits 1, 2 & 3 have much more progress and are closer to completion than Exits 4, 5 & 6 which are connected to a retail & commercial subway, as opposed to the former which connect to the main station box itself. Nonetheless, a fair amount of construction work is required to complete the exits.

TE27 - Marine Terrace (Contract T308)
In a nutshell: Finishing works are taking place for all the 6 exits at the station. Reinstatement works are in full swing with utility relocation into its final position taking place along Marine Parade Road.

TE28 - Siglap (Contract T309)
In a nutshell: The station exits are pretty much complete with signage going in. Present at the exits are the public transport logo caplet as well as maps of the barrier-free routes at the respective exits. The only exit number that can be confirmed is the one that we formerly referred to as Exit A, opposite Victoria School, which will be numbered 2.

TE29 - Bayshore (Contract T310)
In a nutshell: Nothing much has changed at the station site apart from the exits receiving the public transport logo caplet and the covered linkways nearing completion.

Phase 5 stations
The two stations along Phase 5 will open at least a year after the Phase 4 stations. As such, works are still in the structural phase and slowly transiting to installation of architectural, mechanical & electrical components.

TE30 - Bedok South (Contract T311)
In a nutshell: Exit 4, the slowest of the 5 exits at the station, has received a coat of paint making all 5 exits' metal roof frame the same colour now. The outer layer of roofing has also been installed at Exit 4. Painting of the cooling tower along Upper East Coast Road is also underway, in the same shade of dark grey as the exit structures.

TE31 - Sungei Bedok (Contract T312)
In a nutshell: The exit outside Bedok Army Camp had previously had its metal roof frame installed. Scaffolding now encapsulates the frame as installation of the roof elements is set to begin. Some other axillary structures are in the process of having structures cast and installation of architectural, mechanical & electrical components have not yet begun in earnest.

Hope that the above helps to give an idea of the current stage of completion of the various stations along the East Coast stretch of the TEL.

A similar but consolidated (a.k.a. less detailed) post will be available on Instagram & Facebook on 25 November 2023.
