Minister Chee Hong Tat announced during the Ministry of Transport's 2024 Committee of Supply debates in parliament that phase 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will open to the public on 23 June 2024. With most of the stations ready for opening day, we take a closer look at Tanjong Katong station, one of the tightest places to squeeze a station in. Located underneath Amber Road, the station sits at the foot of the Tanjong Katong South flyover, which leads Tanjong Katong Road South into the East Coast Parkway.
Consisting of 3 exits, the station is poised to serve commuters in the vicinity and those arriving from further north along Tanjong Katong Road South. Like neighbouring station Katong Park, a hallmark of Tanjong Katong station is its stacked platform configuration and numerous skylights. Two of these will open up directly to the station's concourse, while the remainder allow natural light to filter into the station's exits.

Exit 1
This exit is located next to the Aalto condominium and features entry to the station via stairs, escalators and lifts. The exit also features bicycle parking towards the Tanjong Katong Road South end, where the lift is located. Escalators and stairs can be accessed from the end nearer to Amber & Meyer Roads. One of the station's skylights is located here as well.
Signage at this exit has been installed and is fully lit up in the evenings. These offer a glimpse at how the station will look in approximately 3 months, when the line is opened to the public. Also functional were the LED train arrival boards.

Exit 2
This exit is located on the site of former demolished low-rise houses and shops. Interestingly, this exit will only feature stair and lift access - there are unfortunately no escalators at this exit due to its narrow footprint. Nonetheless, escalators are available nearby at Exit 1 which is a mere few metres away. Exit 2 is connected to the bus stop along northbound Tanjong Katong Road South via a covered linkway which is already in user serving commuters.
Right in front of the exit is where the station's second skylight can be found, with a somewhat dominating presence. Signage installed at this exit is only partially lit in the evenings, unlike that at Exit 1 across Amber Road. Apart from this, the exit is ready to serve commuters. Like Exit 1, light boxes for station information and locality maps are bare for the moment.

Exit 3
The final exit for the station is arranged in a split array, with the lift and stairs occupying the northern adit. Escalators can be found at the southern adit, connected to the northern one by a covered linkway. Like the other exits across Tanjong Katong Road South, signage has been installed. These are partially light up in the evenings, although the LED train arrival board was noted to be fully functional.
This exit is also connected to a bus stop along the southbound carriageway of Tanjong Katong Road South by a covered linkway. This facility has yet to be opened to commuters, unlike the one at Exit 2.
