With the stations along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL)'s phase 4 months away from opening, we check in at Marine Parade to view the progress made at the station. Of all the stations, this one appears to be the straggler of the bunch. While Founders' Memorial station has its station name signs installed, none of the exits at Marine Parade have these yet. Come take a closer look with us as we recap the station's progress over Q1 of the year.

Exit 1
While most sections around the station have had the hoarding slowly come down, Exit 1 is one of the few that still has hoarding up around the entrance. Reinstatement work along Marine Parade Central is ongoing. In the evenings, the station's interior lights are switched on allowing us to get a closer look at the inside of the exit. Several works remaining include the installation of the station name sign as well as the public transport caplet logo. Landscaping around the exit has also yet to begin.

on the North East Line.

Exit 2
This exit features an integrated, dedicate access to the underground bicycle parking facility - the first to be introduced along Singapore's rail stations. Landscaping has been completed and the hoarding around the station entrance have been taken down. In their place are temporary barriers to keep the public out for the moment. Like exit 1, the station name signs and public transport caplet logo are absent.

In the evenings, the station entrance is lit up. The LED train arrival board was also functioning, indicating the arrival of phantom trains at the station's platforms.

Exit 3
This exit is integrated with a ventilation shaft/cooling tower atop. The exit features skylights that let some natural light into the structure, due to the integrated back of house facilities necessitating walls on 2 sides of the structure.

shopping trolley parked in the front. The series of squares on the wall are where the light boxes
for station information will be mounted - these are not installed yet.

Exit 4
It appears that contractor Samsung C&T has managed to catch progress up at the 3 exits not connected directly to the station box. Given the progress observed at the 3 remaining exits, it is likely that all 6 exits of the station will open together when the station opens in June 2024. Like many of the other exits, the interior lights are switched on during the evening, signifying that the exit is close to completion. However, no station name signs or public transport caplet logos are affixed yet.

Exit 5
This is the furthest station exit from the main station box, located next to Still Road South. The exit appears to have made good progress, with the interior lights switched on at times during the evening. Road reinstatement works were in progress around the vicinity of the exit and will likely continue for some time - much like how road works were continuing when Tampines West station on the Downtown Line was opened publicly.

Exit 6
This simple station exit is nearing completion, much like the other exits further away from the main station box. Over the past quarter a fair bit of cleaning up has been done, with the removal of scaffolding from the structure. A decent amount of work still remains to ensure that all the exit's fittings are installed, but it appears to be on track for completion come opening day.

features seen at Exits 1 to 3.

The good news is that even the straggler of the stretch has achieved decent progress ahead of the line section's full opening to the public in just slightly more than 3 months. With this, we can look forward to a successful opening of TEL4 come 23 June 2024.

This post will be available on Instagram & Facebook on 20 March 2024.
