The Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phase 4 stations are inching closer to completion. It has been a long 7 years since construction of the section broke ground at Marine Parade in 2016. Relief is in sight for the residents of Tanjong Rhu as the station nears completion with the line's opening looming ahead in 2024. Owing to the tight site constraints, work has had to be done in phases in order to squeeze the station and tunnels into the neighbourhood. The station's surface level structures consist of 4 buildings - 2 exits and 2 ancillary buildings. Exit 1 is located to the south, while Exit 2 is at the northern end of the station. Here's a look at the station's progress over the last quarter.

Exit 2 (Northern exit)
Over the past quarter cladding works have largely been completed at this exit, especially at the roof level. Early on in the quarter, parts of the concrete structure could still be seen. However by September most of this had been covered up by cladding. The internal components could also be viewed in September, such as the roller shutter that prevents people from entering once the station is closed for the day and the LED signboard that displays train arrival times.

Exit 1 (Southern exit)
The southern exit likewise has seen progress with its cladding to cover the roof area as of the end of the quarter. The road around the station exit has remained closed throughout the quarter but it is due to be reinstated as part of the final traffic scheme. Transformed into a two-way road during the course of the station's construction, its reinstatement will see the roadways resume one-way traffic flows.

Other station infrastructure
Other infrastructure under construction at the station are the covered linkways and pick-up/drop-off shelters. These are at advanced stages of construction and minor details such as the installation of rain panels was underway during the day of visit.
Also included in contract T303 is the construction of an electrical substation that will supply power to the TEL stretch here. The building is completed and reinstatement works were taking place in the building's vicinity.

Works are coming in to the home stretch. Over the next few months, further signage can be expected to adorn the station indicating the station's name, code and exit numbers. Soft landscaping will also be introduced once the site is tidied up to naturalise the area and give it a spruced up look. We look forward to the completion of Tanjong Rhu station in a few months' time. Do stay tuned as we provide updates on the progress, when available.
