T307 - Marine Parade update Q3 2023

23 September 2023 - A view of workers at Exit A with Parkway Parade's office tower in the
background.

Of all the stations along phase 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) stretch due to open next year, Marine Parade is the largest. With a future total of 7 exits, it also has the most number of entry points into the station along the sector as well. Of the 7, 3 connect directly to the main station box and 4 to the adjoining commercial subway that sits atop the cripple siding tunnels. Progress of the 3 exits that connect to the main station box is more advanced than those connecting to the commercial subway.

Exit A - In front of Mercure Roxy, opposite Parkway Parade
This is a crucial exit as it will connect commuters with the underground bicycle parking facility within the station concourse level. Additional lifts will allow riders to bring their bicycles down directly, bypassing the escalators and lifts used by pedestrians. Over the past quarter, progress has been made to the architectural finishings of the exit. However, there still is quite a way to go before the works are completed by the deadline of March 2024 next year.

Square and Mercure Roxy Hotel.

23 September 2023 - Internal station lighting is switched on.

Exit B - Junction of Marine Parade Road & Joo Chiat Road
This exit is integrated with a cooling tower on top to better utilise the space required to support the station's operations. This is also the exit which is the most advanced in terms of completion, despite the additional work required to clad the cooling tower areas. Over the last quarter, scaffolding has been removed from the cooling tower areas.

6 August 2023 - A view of the exit in mid-Q3 2023. Scaffolding can be seen wrapped in blue
construction netting and adorned with flags for National Day.

3 September 2023 - The blue netting has been partially removed compared to a month prior.

23 September 2023 - The blue construction netting is completely absent.

23 September 2023 - A view of ongoing works to install glass panels at street level. Works on
the pedestrian footpath and pavement can be seen.

Exit C - Parkway Centre
At this exit, waterproofing works were being carried out and subsequently, photovoltaic solar panels installed on the concrete roof. Cladding works are not likely to have commenced at this exit yet. Out of the 3 exits connecting to the main station box, this exit is the least advanced in terms of completion.

3 September 2023 - The orange membrane being installed is the waterproofing layer.

23 September 2023 - Solar panels installed on the roof of the exit to supplement power required
to run the station as part of a green initiative.

Exit F - Junction of Marine Parade Road & Still Road South, opposite former Marine Parade CC
Initially, Marine Parade station was only planned to have 6 exits serving the station. Exit F would have been the last & final exit according to initial plans made. However with the redevelopment of Marine Parade Community Club (CC), plans were made to connect the CC with the station. A knock out panel will be used to allow the new CC building to be connected to the commercial subway at the basement level.

Exit F meanwhile, has been taking shape with the concrete structure becoming visible as opposed to several months ago where the structure was still incomplete. In terms of the pace of development, this exit seems to be on the same trajectory as Exit C.

Exit D - Next to block 74
This exit is unlikely to have any concrete structure, being composed mainly of steel elements. The shape of the overhead canopies has begun to take shape but the exit still lacks the glass side walls and other features. The roofing works are completed with the works transitioning to the ceiling components within such as ceiling panels, lighting & sprinklers. Cladding works will also have to begin before the exit can be ready to be opened to the public.

exit's lift.

Exit E - Opposite Exit D
The sixth exit is located opposite Exit D, along the eastbound carriageway of Marine Parade Road. Like the other exits connecting with the commercial subway, the state of progress is behind the other exits that connect directly to the station box. Cladding work has not commenced for this exit in Q3 of 2023.

23 September 2023

In general, the exits connecting to the main station box are the most complete with cladding works underway and almost done at 2 of the 3 exits. Exit C, which will connect commuters to the hawker centre and market still needs some time for the cladding works to be completed. With the works due by March 2024, there should be sufficient time to complete these in time for the handover to the client.

Works at the remaining exits that connect with the commercial subway still have some way to go before they can be handed over. Depending on how progress goes over the next few months, there is potential for a similar situation to Great World station which initially opened with only 2 of the eventual 6 exits. Great World station, on phase 3 of the line, now has 4 of the 6 exits in operation with construction in progress for the remaining 2 despite the line having opened close to a year ago now.
