T309 - 2022 Year end update

Contract T309 involved the construction of Siglap station underneath the eastern end of Marine Parade Road and did not include the construction of any tunnel segment. Due to site constraints, there was no space to locate launch or retrieval shafts for tunnel boring machines here hence excavation for the station was restricted to the station box structure only. Furthermore, as the top-down method of construction was used, once the roof slab was constructed there was little further disturbance to the area. As a result, the road here has more or less been realigned into its final configuration - far ahead of most other stations along the sector.

However, as with other stations along this stretch of the line, most of the station exit structures have their concrete structures completed. The exception being the western end of Exit A which still has some exposed rebar to be completed. The frame for cladding works to be hung can be seen at some of the exits but no cladding has been installed on the frames. Similar to neighbouring Marine Terrace station, work on the metal frame for cantilevered roofs can be seen in progress.

In August, some members of parliament were granted a visit to the station and posted several pictures online. Some of the works taking place within the station can be seen - such as architectural works including the installation of ceiling panels and cladding, electrical works in laying various service lines and installation of fittings such as lighting and ventilation.

Project information can be readily found at the Project Information Centre (PIC) located near the Marine Terrace station site. There is an information panel for each station that details project statistics, construction methodology and location. It also provides some insight to the contractor's previous projects to showcase their abilities as well.

In the coming year, works at the station exits can be expected to ramp up. Currently there do not appear to be any architectural finishes at the street level - no wiring, cable ducts or other mechanical fittings nor ceiling panels can be seen. These are likely to go in the following year as works progress upwards from the station interior.
