T312 - 2022 year-end update

The second station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phase 5 and the first station on the Downtown Line (DTL) stage 3 extension is an integrated stacked interchange station. The upper platform will house the TEL trains while the DTL will take up the lower platform level. Work at the station has progressed a bit since our last visit round. Although we do not have pictures this round, back-filling has begun as casting for the roof slab of the station has been completed. Work at the exits is continuing as well.

T311 - 2022 year-end update

16 December 2022 - An aerial view of the eastern side of the site.

Bedok South is the first of 2 stations located along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phase 5. Due to the station being located on an undeveloped plot of land, it was possible to use an open-cut to construct the station. Furthermore, this also allowed for the use of pre-fabricated segments to help speed up the construction process. The station has been fully back-filled over with different exits in differing levels of completion.

T310 - 2022 Year end update

3 December 2022 - A view of the future road through Bayshore estate. Exits 4 and 5 flank the road.

3 December 2022 - Exit 2 of Bayshore station.

Bayshore is the last station on the phase 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and will be the terminus for roughly a year before phase 5 becomes operational. Built with a future residential estate in mind, the station will feature 5 exits sporting a signature wooden-inspired wrap-around design unique to the station. Several of the exits have the metal frame already up with roofing works underway whilst others are in the early stages of having the framing set in place. Exit 3 remains the sole exit that does not have any framing being installed yet.

T309 - 2022 Year end update

21 November 2022 - A view westwards along Marine Parade Road.

Contract T309 involved the construction of Siglap station underneath the eastern end of Marine Parade Road and did not include the construction of any tunnel segment. Due to site constraints, there was no space to locate launch or retrieval shafts for tunnel boring machines here hence excavation for the station was restricted to the station box structure only. Furthermore, as the top-down method of construction was used, once the roof slab was constructed there was little further disturbance to the area. As a result, the road here has more or less been realigned into its final configuration - far ahead of most other stations along the sector.

T308 - 2022 Year end update

25 November 2022 - Exit B along Marine Parade Road.

25 November 2022 - Exit A which will be the station's main exit.

All the exits at Marine Terrace station have now had their concrete structures cast. Work has progressed onto the installation of the metal frames for the roof portions. Escalators also appear to have been installed at most of the exits at the station.

T307 - 2022 Year end update

21 November 2022 - Exit A along Marine Parade Road, opposite Parkway
Parade shopping mall just outside Roxy Square.

25 November 2022 - Exit C next to Parkway Centre.

3 December 2022 - Exit B located at the junction of Marine Parade &
Joo Chiat Roads.

Marine Parade station is located right at the heart of the busy neighbourhood and right next to Parkway Parade mall. Directly abutting the station is a cripple siding which will also serve as an underground commercial linkway. Shops are envisioned to be leased out here offering benefits to users as they commute from the station to their destinations. In addition to the commercial linkway, we also understand that as the Marine Parade Community Club (CC) undergoes refurbishment, a new exit via the basement will be constructed to allow for visitors to connect directly to the MRT station. This exit will likely open in the future once the CC is reopened after reconstruction.

T306 - 2022 Year end update

25 November 2022 - A view of Exit B, with the metal frame for the roofing taking shape.

21 November 2022 - A view of Exits A & C along Meyer Road.

Continuing our trek eastwards, our next stop is Tanjong Katong station. Due to site constraints, it is another side stacked station to fit within a very tight site. Some homes were also acquired previously to facilitate the construction of the station directly beneath the homes. Work is taking shape with metal supports reminiscent of the V, featured prominently along the Circle Line stages 4 and 5, clearly visible at the station's exits along Tanjong Katong Road South & Meyer Road.

T305 - 2022 Year end update

21 November 2022 - The northern station exit with cladding visible.

21 November 2022 - The southern station exit, within the Katong Park site.

Katong Park station is the first side-stacked station along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phase 4 moving eastwards. The station will feature a simple design, much like that of Napier's station, where the faregates are co-located at the upper platform & concourse level. However, unlike Napier, there will be no intermediate mezzanine level at this station. Do keep reading to the end for a glimpse at the cut-aways from the 3D architectural models.

T303 - 2022 Year end update

21 November 2022 - A view of the southern exit of the station.

21 November 2022 - A close up of the station's southern exit.

Tanjong Rhu station is the first of several civil defence shelters located along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phase 4. The station will have 2 exits located in the heart of the Tanjong Rhu enclave. An interesting fact about the station is that the 2 side platforms do not exactly align with each other, hence there is a portion that protrudes out on either side so to speak. Construction works are coming along with cladding for the station exits and ventilation shaft yet to be begin.

T302 - 2022 Year end update

25 November 2022 - An aerial view of the station site.

03 December 2022

Founders' Memorial station was a late addition to the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phase 4, having been planned initially as the Gardens Bay East shell station. It was announced for a full fit out on 7th January 2019 for revenue service commencement at a yet to be announced date. These works would enable trains to run through the station without stopping and the station to be able to open with minimal additional work, much like Mount Pleasant and Marina South stations on the neighbouring phase 3 section that was recently opened.

19 August 2022 - A view of the station construction site
towards the east.

14 September 2022 - A view of the station construction
site looking eastwards.

Sungei Bedok will become the eastern terminus of both the Downtown and Thomson-East Coast Lines (DTL & TEL) come 2025. According to images released by the Land Transport Authority, the longer trains of the TEL will use the upper platform level while the shorter trains of the DTL will use the lower platforms in the integrated station.

T310 - Bayshore progress

19 August 2022 - An overview of the Bayshore station construction site.

Hey everyone, we're back! Due to time constraints during our National Day Virtual Tour of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) phases 4 & 5, we had to skip both Bayshore & Sungei Bedok stations. But soon after, we made another trip down to cover these remaining 2 stations. Do check out the progress of Bayshore station which will have 5 exits. Early last month, Minister Heng Swee Kiat also visited the station and posted a few photos on his Facebook page, showing the station's interior.

SgMC - National Day virtual tour

Hey there, its been a while. We hope you've been doing well since our last update 3 years ago. Since then, things have been kind of hectic with Covid and such. Some of us were, or still are, working in the medical industry, hence our jobs and responsibilities had to come first - especially so during this pandemic. But now that things are stabilizing, we hope everyone is doing well and has kept safe throughout.

If you haven't heard already, we've launched an Instagram channel counter-part to the construction blogs that we run. And we're doing a virtual tour this National Day. We'd be thrilled if you could check out how you can participate and perhaps win an LTA Knackstop gift if your photo gets the 3 highest likes on our channel's stories. If you haven't already, do visit @sgmrtconstruction on Instagram. We hope to see you there and do join us on 9th August for the virtual tour! Perhaps this might breathe new life into this blog once again!

ECL Construction blog is expanding

A happy Saturday to all readers! We are happy to announce that we will be expanding our reach on a new platform that will allow us to provide more bite-sized, visual-driven chunks as a complement to fuller, meatier blog posts.

Don't worry - We will still be updating the blogs. Our new platform is an extension of the blog, allowing us to provide quicker updates as and when we have information to share - even when the content may not constitute a full blog post. What's more, unlike our blogs, the new platform will go beyond specific lines to encompass updates across all upcoming and existing lines.

Blogs will continue to provide more detailed news, construction and speculative writeups, as and when information on works and/or new sections of the lines become available.

As always, feel free to alert us of any developments by sharing photos, videos, writeups, and any other content. It is tough for us to be everywhere all at once, so we welcome tip offs, and will credit you for the material if we do put it up.

We are excited for the upcoming expansion and can't wait for you to journey with us. Stay tuned for the unveiling, and watch this space for further updates!
